Oh no! My chest freezer broke. Unfortunately, I didn’t open in the past week to discover the problem, so all the fruit I so carefully packaged to make jam is inedible. Also, my liability insurance doesn’t currently cover spoilage. So there’s that.
Fortunately, spring harvested fruit will be available in less than two weeks, including rhubarb and Hood strawberries! Also, I have a decent stock on hand and can get Montmorency cherries, Marionberries, Italian plums, Honeycrisp apples and Asian pears from a supplier of local produce. Perhaps this is my cue that I should spend this weekend doing other things besides making jam. The rain is pouring down. There’s Thai chicken curry soup on the stove and jasmine rice in the rice cooker. I think I’ll enjoy a refreshing gin and tonic and not worry about it for now. As Scarlett O’Hara would say, ” I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.”
