Blackberry Merlot Jam

Oregon summers always have a slow start. True summer temperatures don’t usually begin until early July. Because of the weather, blackberries ripen in mid July and again in early September. Because of its northern location, summer nights are extra long. It’s common for the sun to set around 10:30pm. So what does that all mean? Long summer nights for an extra month or so give the September blackberries extra sun. And extra sun means extra sweet blackberries.
